Maria Bestar is a director, screenwriter, actress, singer, and composer.
After a successful 15-year career in the music industry, where she released three albums with Sony Music and sold hundreds of thousands of albums in Latin America, Maria ventures into the world of film and television as a writer, director, and actress.
She graduated from the ARS MEDIA in Madrid (Spain). In New York, she attended the Film Direction workshop with Solar Productions and in Miami, she trained as an actress under the guidance of Maria Banda at Area Stage Company.
In recent years, she has worked at Televisión Española (TVE), Telemundo, Televisa, NBC Studios, and Netflix as an actress and developed several fiction series, including “No te puedes esconder” (You Cannot Hide), winner of Best Series of the Year at the New York Film Festival. She recently co-wrote the series “Pirates of Arabia” for the Saudi production company Hakawatti.
After starring in “La Noche” (The Night) in 2022, Maria begins working on the pre-production of her first feature film, “Encerradas” (Locked Up), which will be shot in 2024.
In 2023, she filmed her first short film “No estás loca” (You’re Not Crazy) as director, screenwriter, and actress, receiving support from the United Nations by aligning with their 2030 agenda. So far, “No estás Loca” has won the Best Director Award at the XX Alicante Film Festival, the Special International Advocay and the Audience Choice Award at the VIII Coronado Festival (San Diego, USA), and has been selected in other festivals such as the XXXV L’Alfas del Pi Film Festival, VIII Santaella Short Film Festival, 8th Moscatell Short Film Show, II Mirades Fest Social Cinema Show, International Social Cinema Contest in Zaragoza, Asto International in Greece, 18th International Short Film Festival Atene@s, and the XIV Bardem Short Film Show, among others.
